Choreographing the Collection

Choreographing the Collection

In 2017 Katie was commissioned by Dulwich Picture Gallery to create a danced tour for the gallery's 200th anniversary, part of the Pavilion Lates season.

Choreographing the Collection aims to retrace the footsteps of the millions of visitors who have crossed the gallery's threshold over 200 years.

With four dancers as your guides, writing by Anna Selby and original music by Max Perryment, this playful promenade performance will introduce you to the world of the permanent collection at Dulwich Picture Gallery in a new way. Beginning with the gallery's Founders and their aspirations for the world's first purpose-built public art gallery, we will allow the paintings to tell their stories, journeying from composition and artistic invention to an exploration of our relationship with great works of art and the power they can hold.

Created in collaboration with Dulwich Picture Gallery Assistant Curator Helen Hillyard

Dancers: Henry Curtis, Megan Griffiths, Chloe Mead, Hannah Rotchell

Designed by Kate McStraw

Guest practitioner: Sara Wookey

Choreographing the Collection was created with support from the National Lottery through Arts Council England

An uplifting event that leaves you dreamy and opens up new ways to experience visiting a gallery. It was also very inspirational for my daughters who are now dreaming of dancing through life as they saw the dancers depict the paintings in the gallery.
