Last week (11th – 13th January) we had an emotional roller-coaster of a few days working at Kents Cavern in Torquay, developing ideas for a new dance promenade piece for caves and underground spaces called 'Beneath Our Feet'.

In September 2016 I started working with evaluator Emma McFarland, mentor Elsa Urmston, work placement Hannah Gibbs and the children and teachers of St Mary’s School in Byfleet to deliver a research project exploring ways of integrating dance within the primary school history curriculum. This work is supported by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, through an ‘Explore and Test’ grant. Now that we're nearing the end of our first term, it felt like a good time to take stock of what we're learning, so I wanted to collect together some thoughts here.

Our second week of research for the Dancing in Caves project at Pavilion Dance South West culminated in a sharing of some of our early ideas for new work Beneath Our Feet in the PDSW theatre, lit by torches. Our audience were really generous in feeding back about their experience of the work, and I wanted to jot down some of the things I learnt from their responses, as well as other key ideas from the second week.

For 2 weeks in August and September 2016 we are in residence with Pavilion Dance South West exploring initial movement ideas for our new work 'Beneath Our Feet', designed for promenade performance in caves and underground spaces.

We are very pleased to announce that we will be joined for our performances at Lancaster City Museum on the 5th August 2016 by local choreographer Louise Gibbons, performing her solo 'Miss Baines', choreographed by Gary Clarke and commissioned by Ludus Dance.
